FREE COVID-19 VACCINATION CAMPAIGN
July 17th, 2022
According to the World Health Organization, 6.34 million people have lost their lives due to covid-19. In Uganda today, 3621 lives have been lost.
As COVID-19 sub-variants continue to emerge around the world, the WHO has called for more efforts to help all countries receive life-saving coronavirus vaccines as quickly as possible.
The head of the WHO Emergency Program, Dr. Mike Ryan, stressed that vaccinating at least 70% of each country's population (including 100% of the high-risk population) is the best way to save lives & protect health systems. The vaccination offers a reliable way of building protection against covid-19 as well as reducing the severity of covid-19. Whereas one of the objectives of the medical center is to combat epidemic diseases in the African community and in Uganda in particular, Afriegypt Health Services launched a free covid-19 vaccination exercise that targeted people above the age of 12 years across the entire region.
The biggest challenge was in vaccinating the most high-risk population groups and many misconceptions firmly rooted among citizens about the presence of fatal side effects of vaccination, which necessitated the work on strong educative campaign to encourage the people to take their vaccine through Radio stations, mosques, churches and also social media.
The exercise was on going for 4 days from the 29th June – 2nd July 2022 in partnership with the office of the District Heath Officer of Jinja. The vaccines that were administered were Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer.
Ugandans and also Members of foreign communities residing in Jinja District shared in this exercise, some of them had vaccinated for the first dose, second dose and the others had received their booster doses.
